Since June, four works by Emil Nolde have been undergoing material science and art technology research as well as conservation and restoration work in our Wüstenrot Foundation show studio.

The qualified conservators Lena Bühl and Dr. Carolin Heinemann will spend six months working intensively on the works and their position in the painter's oeuvre in terms of art technology. In the course of the scientific investigations, radiation diagnostic methods will be used to analyze the surfaces and hidden layers as well as the colorants used. In addition, fiber analyses will be carried out to determine the painting support material. Art technological examinations provide information about the artist's individual painting style. Conservation and restoration activities include consolidation measures in the area of the paint layers and surface cleaning. In addition, the framing is optimized and measures are taken to protect against vibrations.

In the Wüstenrot Foundation's Schauatelier you will gain an insight into art-technological research and restoration work. This also includes comprehensive scientific investigations that are currently taking place. The expert tours offer you in-depth insights.

Every Wednesday you have the opportunity to be part of the restoration work live!
