The subject of loneliness has long preoccupied journalist and author Daniel Haas. He lost both his parents to suicide, and a burnout isolated him for several years. When he lost everything - his job, his partner, friends, a perspective for the future - isolation set in. Daniel Haas begins to ask questions and trace his legacy of loneliness: How did this feeling pass from mother to son? When was the tipping point that caused him to stumble and how can he find his way out again?
In his book, Daniel Haas tells of his upper middle-class upbringing in Frankfurt in the 1970s, of a headstrong mother full of grandeur who had a decisive influence on her son, of resentment, fears and self-doubt, of admirable male friendships and ultimately the realization that only acceptance and goodwill towards others and life can lead him out of his supposed role as an outsider.
