Matthieu Delaporte TWENTY-ONE BEFORE THE END Drama
A ludicrous story with depth: Experience "Bergdoktor" star Heiko Ruprecht and Jan Messutat in a battle of words for life and death.
Bertrand has the feeling that he has missed out on life. No wife, boring job, no ambitions. That should stop. But just as he is about to kill himself, there is a knock on the door of his apartment. A strange, unfamiliar man is standing outside.
Gradually it is revealed that the man is Death himself, one of many employees who pick up potential candidates. But he has got the wrong floor and Death is anything but a professional. This awakens new life in Bertrand and a race against time begins ...
Frenchman Matthieu Delaporte is known for his intelligent comedies with finely honed dialog. He and Alexandre de La Patellière celebrated sensational successes as an author duo with "The First Name" and "The Farewell Dinner", among others. Both plays ran successfully in our Komödie im Marquardt.
"An ingenious idea", "tragicomic scenes, absurd dialogues and delicious exchanges", said the French press about the Paris premiere: "A play between black humor and metaphysical revelation".
With this unusual play, Heiko Ruprecht returns to the stage of the Altes Schauspielhaus, where he last shone in "Die Tanzstunde". "Best entertainment at the highest level", writes the Iserlohner Zeitung about Martin Schulze's production.
