Persian chamber jazz by the Australian-based ensemble is on tonight's program at the Lab and promises a cross-genre tapestry of sound.
Under the direction of acclaimed Persian-Australian tar virtuoso and composer Hamed Sadeghi, the Eishan Ensemble masterfully fuses classical Persian and contemporary Western music. The boundaries between chamber jazz and Middle Eastern jazz fusion blur to create a sound that boldly defies categorization.
Sadeghi has a rich heritage of Persian classical music. After years of performing classical Persian music in Iran and Asia, Sadeghi moved to Australia ten years ago to seek and develop new sounds and directions with his music in a Western environment. This courageous artistic journey has brought him great recognition. The Sydney Morning Herald describes him as "one of Australia's most poetic composers".
The repertoire of the Australia-based Eishan Ensemble, which has been nominated for the ARIA Awards (Australia's highest music prize), consists mainly of Sadeghi's original compositions. The compositions combine virtuoso improvisations with the precision of traditional forms. The result is a captivating cross-genre tapestry of sound.
The Eishan Ensemble has performed on prestigious international stages such as Womad Festival, Sydney Opera House, London Jazz Festival, Auckland Arts Center, Brisbane Festival.
Live in Europe, the Eishan Ensemble presents its latest album "Northern Rhapsody", a celebration of tradition and innovation, a reflection on human connections and an invitation to explore new worlds through music.
