Tennessee Williams Endstation Sehnsucht Drama
Tennessee Williams' global success with a star cast: watch Natalie O'Hara and Max Hemmersdorfer as passionate rivals.
The cultivated yet unstable Blanche DuBois seeks refuge with her sister Stella. Together with her coarse husband Stanley, Stella lives in poor circumstances. Blanche is appalled by the conditions in Stella's life. She also finds herself increasingly at odds with Stanley. Overwhelmed by the situation and her own failure, Blanche takes refuge in a dream world. The situation gets worse and worse until it finally escalates.
The gripping drama with the original title "A Streetcar Named Desire" premiered in New York in 1947 and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. Successfully filmed in the early 1950s with Vivien Leigh and the young Marlon Brando, it is a modern classic both as a play and a film. The theme of two clashing worlds and simmering conflicts still captivates audiences today.
The production is directed by Robin Telfer, who has already won several audience awards for his productions at our theaters. The set is designed by Siegfried E. Mayer, whose design for "Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen" was very well received. Natalie O'Hara ("Der Bergdoktor") as Blanche DuBois and Max Hemmersdorfer ("Die Notärztin") as Stanley Kowalski guarantee a theater experience in a class of its own.
