Traditional Coventry Carol
Carols have been sung at Christmas time in England for eight centuries. They go back to pagan, folk songs with dancing, which became sacred songs with Old English-Latin texts in the course of Christianization. In the heyday of Catholicism, Marian carols and lullabies dominated, later giving rise to the Christmas carols that are known and loved around the world today. The Scottish soprano Carine Tinney, who gave us wonderful Bach:vocal moments in the Collegiate Church, joins ensemble feuervogel to trace this tradition, which reflects the religious history of Great Britain.
