Legendary German alternative rock from Duisburg with singer Tom Liwa make their rendezvous on the Lab stage.
Duisburg - a city that nobody moves to voluntarily, unless it's for love. This is where the Flowerpornoes come from, who have been searching for an expression of this very love for a quarter of a century. Their singer Tom Liwa regularly releases CDs with songs in which he poetically expresses himself and his view of things.
The fact that the Flowerpornoes never achieved star status themselves, despite their quality and undeniable influence on countless German-language bands from Blumfeld to Tomte, was not least due to a deliberate attitude of refusal towards the pop business. Yet their works from the mid-nineties are still considered a major influence on the following alternative generations.
Eleven songs on Tom Liwa's greatest hits double vinyl album (20 Power Hits) are by the Flowerpornoes. So what could be more natural than to take old friends Markus Steinebach, Giuseppe Mautone and Birgit BBQ Quentmeier along on part of the tour, which celebrates more than forty years of work? As Tom once said: "The band will probably never break up - we'll probably just die one by one at some point!" Since it's hopefully still a long time until then, we're looking forward to the concert with the grandmothers of modern, German-language indie pop, to electrified, multi-layered, shimmering and psychedelicized versions of the Liwaschen songbook and unique stage behavior between Muppet Show and Angry Birds 2.
