For my Negativity

"For my Negativity" is the title of the long poem written and performed by Ugandan author Kagayi Ngobi. In Stuttgart, the text was performed in German for the first time as part of the second literature festival. The performance takes the audience into a social system that restricts human rights and undermines democratic values. The production sheds light on the lack of prospects and oppression of young people and marginalized groups in Uganda and draws connections to current social tensions in Germany, such as the resurgence of queer and xenophobia. The mixture of performance, light and sound draws the audience into the emotional world of the monologue and makes them reflect on the universal struggles for self-determination and identity.
