Freak sounds - music away from the norm:
Peter Pichler plays trautonium
Hitchcock's "Birds" made the trautonium famous. The cries of the crows, produced electronically, made the horror seem even more sinister. Invented in 1930, the trautonium is one of the very first electronic musical instruments - the grandmother of the synthesizer. Then forgotten, Peter Pichler has given it a comeback today. It appears in the soundtrack of Oscar winner Volker Bertelmann's new Netflix film "Ballad Of A Small Player" by Eduard Berger. In his new book "Freak-Sounds - Musik abseits der Norm", music journalist Christoph Wagner has dedicated a chapter to the electronic wonder machine and is now presenting the trautonium with Peter Pichler in a multimedia concert that spans the arc from the beginnings of electronic music to the present day.
