For many people, their wedding is supposed to be the most beautiful day of their lives. Although the attitude towards marriage was not quite so romantic in the 17th and 18th centuries, a wedding was still to be celebrated in a fitting manner - sometimes even over several days. Of course, music was also played at weddings, especially during church services.
Together with their musical friends from Vox Luminis, the musicians of the Freiburg Baroque Consort dedicate themselves to a wide variety of wedding music from Heinrich Schütz to Johann Sebastian Bach. In between, works by Johann Christoph and Johann Michael Bach can be heard. According to the Bach family chronicle, Johann Michael was a skilful composer whose work reflects his artistic character. Johann Christoph Bach, about whom Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach wrote that he was "the great and expressive composer", was even more praised. His works include the cantata "Meine Freundin, Du bist schön".
