Führung | 501 Jahre die „12 Artikel“

Duration

60 minutes

The struggle for freedom, equality and participation

Exactly 501 years ago, rebellious peasants formulated one of the earliest written programs of freedom and demands in Europe with the "12 Articles" (1525). Between 1524 and 1526, people in the Peasants' War fought for personal freedom as well as political and religious participation - issues that were far ahead of their time and still have an impact today.

This guided tour takes the "12 Articles" as an opportunity to shed light on the Peasants' War as an important social movement in European history. Backgrounds, central actors and demands are classified and put in relation to later revolutions and democratization processes.

What you can expect:

  • Background knowledge on the "12 Articles" of 1525
  • Classification of the Peasants' War (1524-1526) as an early freedom movement
  • Historical objects and sources explained in an understandable way
