On February 19, 2020, a gunman murdered nine people in Hanau for racist motives. Gökhan Gültekin was one of them. Çetin Gültekin tells his brother’s story and shows that we are not “the others”—we are part of German society. Gökhan was born in Hanau in 1982; his parents were from Turkey. Before the attack, he had already narrowly escaped death twice, fighting his way back to life time and again. But this time, he did not survive. For his family, a nightmare begins; they are torn between grief and the fight for justice, as new instances of official negligence keep coming to light.
Since then, Çetin Gültekin, together with Mutlu Koçak, has been working to ensure that the victims and their story are not forgotten—and fighting against deep-rooted racism in Germany. Also on stage is Fadi Saad, an author and police officer who has been advocating for moral courage for years.
