Only the trombone combines the assertiveness of a mother-in-law with the suppleness of a Siamese cat - a fascinating characteristic that is still far too little known in the music world.
This is exactly what the Longhorns want to change. Founded by bass trombonist and composer Stephan Kirsch and three other outstanding trombonists, the ensemble is dedicated to the exciting task of exploring the sonic possibilities of jazz in a new way. The name says it all: with a powerful sound and great energy, they drive their "roaring horns" through the multifaceted world of jazz - open, curious and with an infectious joy of playing. Alongside Stephan Kirsch, Eberhard Budziat plays a key role in shaping the group's characteristic sound with his compositions. The ensemble is complemented by Uli Röser, known for his collaboration with Udo Lindenberg, and Samuel Restle, winner of the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize 2025.
In an expanded line-up with piano, bass and drums, the focus is primarily on original compositions: powerful, stylistically versatile and deeply rooted in swing. The Longhorns show the trombone as a lively, versatile instrument - virtuosic, precise and playful at the same time.
The evening's host is the Korean jazz pianist Gee Hye Lee, who brings her musical energy to this project with great passion. The rhythm section with Yaron Stavi on bass and Felix Schrack on drums provides the finely tuned foundation. An evening full of sound colors, energy and musical discoveries - and impressive proof that the trombone has long since arrived in the present.
