25 Years of the Literaturhaus – Floating. A Contrasting Program in Difficult Times

“Gifts from Heaven. Can You Collect Clouds?” —asks Florian Illies in the first public presentation of his private collection of cloud paintings at the Literaturhaus. To accompany the opening, the exhibition catalog of the same name—hot off the press—will be presented for the first time that evening (Schirmer/Mosel). For millennia, clouds drifted across the earth, free and aimless. Until the early 19th century, when people suddenly began to capture them in art and literature, seeking to hold on to them. “Always keep a small piece of heaven free above your life”—wrote Marcel Proust in *In Search of Lost Time*. Illies is also featured in the latest issue of the Tübingen-based science magazine *Science Notes* with an article about his collection. To mark the 25th anniversary of the Literaturhaus, the new issue is dedicated to the theme of “FLOATING.” For example, Elise Schmit reflects on dreaming jellyfish, Jörg Piringer explores the concept of floating through a conceptual journey, and Sandra Teschow discusses the design of this magazine at the intersection of science and society—sky and water, art opening, book and magazine launch—come float with us!
