In “Gomesch,” the great Armenian writer Hrant Matevossian tells the story of an animal setting out on a journey. What begins as a simple tale from the Armenian highlands becomes a poetic journey through a world in which humans and animals, landscape and memory are inextricably linked.

Narine Grigoryan, one of Armenia’s most distinguished actresses and directors, brings this extraordinary story to life on stage as an intense monodrama. With great physical presence and minimal staging, she brings people, animals, and landscapes to life and offers a surprisingly new perspective on our relationship with nature—its beauty, its power, and its vulnerability.

Hrant Matevossian (1935–2002) is considered one of the most significant Armenian prose writers of the 20th century. His works have been translated into numerous languages. For her production of “Gomesch,” Narine Grigoryan was awarded the prize for best solo performance in 2022.
