TWO AROUND THE WORLD -
IN 80 DAYS WITHOUT MONEY
LIVE PHOTO & FILM SHOW BY AND WITH PAUL AND HANSEN HOEPNER
In "Two around the world", Paul and Hansen Hoepner report on a very special round-the-world trip. Like Phileas Fogg from Jules Verne's book "Around the World in 80 Days", they attempt to circumnavigate the globe in the same amount of time. Unlike Fogg, who had over 20,000 pounds for his project, they have left their home in Berlin without a single penny in their pockets. Their incredible journey takes them through 18 countries, from Europe to the American continent, through the Far East and Asia and finally back home. Why the time pressure? Why without money? You can't make a journey without money on your own, you can only do it with the help of strangers you meet every day. You are inevitably confronted with your own prejudices, but under time pressure you don't have the luxury of giving in to them, on the contrary: you make the most of every opportunity, no matter how small. This leads to special encounters and an openness that you would probably never experience under other circumstances - and brings people together who would otherwise never meet.
The trip shows in an almost wonderful way how helpful people around the world are, regardless of whether they are rich or poor. It shows how close you can get to people, especially when money is no object. A nice contrasting program in times of populism, xenophobia and prejudice. But how do you do that? In addition to great basic trust and perseverance, Paul and Hansen need the courage to take often very unusual measures: Hitchhiking across the Atlantic in an airplane? Jobbing with Hells Angel rocker Pete? Selling jokes on the street? Up-cycling from bicycle corpses? Selling jewelry on the street in New Delhi? This is just a small selection of the activities they undertake, some successful, some in vain. They try to achieve their goal with many disagreements, highlights and defeats - sometimes very close to failure. Fast-paced and turbulent - a typical Hoepner adventure!
"You can book the craziest trips around the world for millions of euros, but a trip like the one Paul and Hansen Hoepner undertook is priceless." (Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung)
