Conversation with Jean-Remy von Matt and Bernhard Pörksen
Our brain processes powerful messages in a matter of seconds via the eye. Jean-Remy von Matt, now a concept artist, has written advertising history with this knowledge. The Jung von Matt agency is famous for its campaigns for Edeka, Mercedes-Benz and Sixt and for slogans such as "Form your own opinion", "Who invented it?" and "Three, two, one, mine". 2025 saw the publication of von Matt's book "Am Ende. Erlebnisse und Erkenntnisse aus meinem kreativen Leben" was published in 2025 - an autobiographical conclusion to his career as the creative head of Germany's best-known advertising agency. Jean-Remy von Matt talks about loud campaigns and quiet understanding with Bernhard Pörksen, Professor of Media Studies at the University of Tübingen and widely known for his work on scandal research and his books with the psychologist Friedemann Schulz von Thun. His most recent book was "Zuhören. The art of opening up to the world". Here, he focuses on the mechanisms that prevent people from listening. What does it mean to really listen, to question one's own convictions, to expose oneself to the world view of others - whether in private or in public?
