"Imbalance"

Location:
Theaterhaus, Siemensstr. 11, 70469 Stuttgart

"Imbalance, the contradictory nature of Dionysus" is a contemporary dance piece that deals with the contradiction between the human need for control and the desire to free oneself from it. Inspired by the ancient Greek god of wine, Dionysus, the choreography combines poetic imagery with a virtuosic and versatile dance technique.
In Greek mythology, Dionysus is not only the god of wine and excess. He is also associated with fertility, productivity, creative power, devotion, the origin of theater and self-sacrifice. Above all, however, he stands for the balance between the rational and the irrational, for control and chaos. In the myth, it tries to convey to people that they should become aware of their "dark" side in order to ultimately accept it.
The excessive can unleash tremendous creative power but can also lead to ruin. Humans carry this contradiction within them. He longs for happiness, peace, beauty, immortality and is the creator of great works. At the same time, he is capable of committing the worst crimes and can be the destroyer of worlds. We are rational but also completely irrational. This is also reflected in the movements and scenes of the two-part dance performance, with seamless transitions, powerful and dynamic movements, through to slow and dreamlike passages. The energetic contemporary choreography focuses on expressive dynamics, contrasts and movements that give the impression of being out of balance. The dancers release a tension and an energy that is constantly changing and expresses the dualistic world of Dionysus.
