The 22nd Indian Film Festival Stuttgart kicks off with the wonderful coming-of-age drama 'Superboys of Malegaon' by Reema Kagti on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 7 pm at the Gloria 2 cinema (Innenstadtkinos, Bolz-/Königstraße).The "Spirit of India" is reflected in each of the more than 70 current films in the five-day program. Committed arthouse films address the changes in Indian society. Under the motto "Ready for the ultimate thrill", Europe's largest Indian film festival also offers a popcorn cinema feeling with fantasy adventures, sci-fi stories, thrillers and police action.
Collaborations with local partners open up the eclectic mix of films: the film series 'Cinema Futuro' brings Ronny Sen's debut film 'Cat Sticks' to the screen in a warm-up at the Cinema on July 14. On Friday, July 25, a special with queer films from India will be screened for the Stuttgart Pride weekend. The Lindenmuseum offers guided tours and documentary films on Indian craftsmanship. The Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg will be holding a special screening with its International Class. The Theater am Faden will provide live Indian music.
On July 24 at 10 a.m., a school screening will show Indian films on global youth issues. On July 27 at 3 pm, the charming family comedy 'Outhouse' by Sunil Sukthankar will be screened, narrated live in German by actress Juliane Bacher (age rating: from 6 years).Until the presentation of the 'German Star of India' film awards on Sunday, July 27, the festival will make Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, a hotspot for Indian cinema.
