Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize 2025 for Samuel Restle
Stuttgart-based trombonist, composer and arranger Samuel Restle has been awarded this year's Jazz Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg. The 15,000 euro prize will be awarded by State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun on Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart.
After welcoming speeches by Theaterhaus director Werner Schretzmaier and Stuttgart's head of cultural affairs Marc Gegenfurtner, Stuttgart singer and university professor Fola Dada will give a laudatory speech. As usual, the centerpiece of the evening is a seventy-minute live concert by the prizewinner and his Samuel Restle Big Band.
The Samuel Restle Bigband brings together some of the best young musicians in Germany. The debut album "Live at Loft" - more of a surprise product of the first tour in December 2023 - impressed audiences and jazz connoisseurs with its multifaceted nature. Despite its complexity and multi-layered nature, the 27-year-old composer's music remains accessible and tangible. Bursts of free improvisation alternate with familiar big band sounds, conceptual compositions go hand in hand with sounds from contemporary pop music. The solo contributions bring the program to life with courage and creative finesse.
