In the heart of Stuttgart, at the Hospitalhof, BEYOND FUN is presenting an exhibition featuring works by artist Jan-Hendrik Pelz. On display are paintings centered on the journey of judo fighter Shugaa Nashwan to Yemen—his country of origin. Nashwan traveled there to organize a judo tournament, even though he was gradually losing his sight due to an eye disease.
Pelz accompanied him and painted pictures that depict Nashwan’s perspective on this journey. They reflect his visual perception, as he could only see in a hazy, blurred manner at the time of the trip.
Jan-Hendrik Pelz studied fine arts in Stuttgart and Basel. He currently works in the fields of painting, installation, conceptual art, and video art. He has received several grants and the 16th Art Prize of the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken. He is currently the town painter of Gaildorf.
