Juras letzter Winter

In his new novel, the narrator, Edgar, comes across the story of a boy who starved to death at the hands of the German Wehrmacht during the Siege of Leningrad. Jura left behind a diary that Edgar reads over and over again, until he soon feels as though he knows the boy. Jura becomes a character in the novel, just as Edgar does. Their encounter begins cautiously and grows closer as the story unfolds. A dialogue develops between the two about youth, dreams, literature, mothers, farewells, alienation, and closeness, and they share their most personal stories with one another. *
