Kanahi Yamashita

Kanahi Yamashita was born in Nagasaki in 1997 and received her musical training from her parents - guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita and composer Keiko Fujiie. She performed worldwide as a child in the Kazuhito Yamashita Family Quintet and made her solo debut at the age of 13 in international duo concerts with her father. She has lived in Berlin since 2015, where she studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Prof. T. Müller-Pering and at the Nuremberg University of Music with Prof. B. Colell and began her concert exam in 2023. As a soloist, she has performed at festivals in Europe, Mexico, China and Australia and enjoys international recognition. She has attracted particular attention in Japan since her solo tour in 2024 and has performed there with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. A first tour of the USA is planned for 2026. She is also very active as a chamber musician: in 2025, "Duo Musubi" (flute: Malin Sieberns) won the Gerhard Vogt Chamber Music Competition, followed by a tour of South America with violinist Mayumi Kanagawa as "Duo Lotos" in 2026. In 2021 her CD with works by C. Domeniconi was released. She has appeared on BR Klassik ("On Stage", 2023) and NHK-FM ("Recital Passio", 2024), among others. Kanahi is a winner of several international competitions, including the German Guitar Prize 2019 and semi-finalist at the ARD Music Competition Munich 2017. She was a scholarship holder of the Yamaha Music Foundation and the Rohm Music Foundation.
