between/rent
with Jessica Mawuena Lawson, moderated by Yeama Bangali
In the "zwischen/miete" series, private apartments and cozy shared rooms become small reading stages in the middle of the city for one evening. Over beer and pretzels, books from the latest
generation of German-language writers are presented. In April, Jessica Mawuena Lawson will be a guest with her debut novel "Kekeli". She tells of Afro-German history and the present, of belonging, family and the search for connection: Kekeli's life initially follows an orderly course - until her mysterious cousin Afi from Togo turns up. Together with Kwame and his brother Kofi, she embarks on a road trip to Berlin, discovers a family secret and gets closer to more than just her origins. Jessica Mawuena Lawson, born in 1997, lives in southern Germany, works in a refugee shelter and studies literature and cultural theory. Like her protagonist, she also has a German-Togolese background.
