Lecture by Lenka Kerdová with short film
After the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918, there was also a spirit of optimism in architecture in Prague. Lenka Kerdová examines the role played by German-speaking architects - a group that was anything but homogeneous. To what extent does "German" architecture differ from the buildings of the Czech majority? Why does it appear more conservative than Czech functionalism? Where is its place in the context of German and Central European cities? The starting point for Lenka Kerdová's interest in the topic was a personal encounter that she recorded on film in 2016. The short film "Messestraße Elf" provides the introduction to this evening's architectural exploration of the city.
Dr. Lenka Kerdová is an artist, art historian and curator. She lives in Vienna. In 2022 she published the bilingual study "Malý Berlín ve Velké Praze/Klein-Berlin in Groß-Prag".
