In the "Questions to Science" series, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Class, University of Stuttgart, talks about new challenges for the water supply.

Droughts, heatwaves and floods are on the increase - climate change poses new challenges for the water supply. At the same time, the underground, from which around 70% of Germany's drinking water comes, is being used more intensively as a result of the energy transition. Pollutants are also contaminating the groundwater. How are decision-making processes on groundwater protection prepared, how are stakeholders involved - and what role do numerical simulations play in this? The lecture by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Class, University of Stuttgart, provides a well-founded overview, classifies the developments and offers an insight into the research work.
