Konzert: Felix Mendelssohn im Dialog: Bach, Mozart und Beethoven

Location:
Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Urbanstraße 25, 70182 Stuttgart

Even as a teenager, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy devoted himself to Johann Sebastian Bach's counterpoint with great dedication. The revival of the St. Matthew Passion in 1829 made him a pioneer of the Bach Renaissance. At the same time, his teacher Carl Friedrich Zelter encouraged him to learn from the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - an influence that is clearly reflected in many of Mendelssohn's early compositions. Mendelssohn also admired the expressiveness and formal boldness of Ludwig van Beethoven, traces of which can also be found in his work. This concert places Mendelssohn's musical world in a lively dialog with his role models: You will hear important works by Bach, Mozart and Beethoven - compositions that inspired Mendelssohn himself. Between these masterpieces, you will hear selected songs without words by Mendelssohn, which impressively demonstrate how he shaped the influences of his great role models into his own unmistakable musical language.
