A Musical Journey Through Gypsy Lands – Songs from Armenia, the Balkans, and Paris

A voice you’ll recognize after just a few bars: dark, rough, and full of stories. Dan Gharibian, the legendary co-founder of the French world music group Bratsch, is coming to Stuttgart with his trio.

Together with Benoît Convert on guitar and Antoine Girard on accordion, Gharibian guides the audience through a musical world spanning Armenia, the Balkans, Greece, Russia, and Paris. French chansons meet Armenian songs, Gypsy music, Eastern influences, Slavic melodies, and jazz.

The songs are performed in French, Armenian, Romani, Greek, and other languages. The repertoire includes original ballads, the traditional Armenian song “Gulo,” as well as personal interpretations of songs by Charles Aznavour and Claude Nougaro.

Dan Gharibian has been performing on international stages for more than five decades. With his viola, he shaped an entire generation of European world music. In this trio, this musical story is not simply continued but retold: directly, intimately, and with plenty of room for improvisation, humor, and the unmistakable voice of a great troubadour.
