L'incoronazione di Poppea
- Location:
- Wilhelma Theater, Neckartalstr. 9, 70376 Stuttgart
Opera by Claudio Monteverdi
Poppea is the most beautiful woman in Rome and she wants to become empress. Nero is completely smitten by her and ignores the objections of his philosophical advisor Seneca as well as the rights of his wife Ottavia.
Power, passion, sex and intrigue at the Roman court inspired Monteverdi and his librettist Buseniello to create the first opera with historical protagonists - and music of baroque sensuality and gripping drama.
It is the first time in a long time that a baroque opera has been staged at the Wilhelma Theater, with students from the HMDK Stuttgart Opera School staging it under the direction of the renowned expert in historical performance practice Jörg Halubek, directed by Max Hoehn and set by Friedrich Eggert.
