WILD WOOD & SPARK - THE CLASSIC BAND
MÄCHTIG ZUNDER
Two top-class bands with an extraordinary line-up in a top-class get-together
Wildes Holz and Spark have been a fixture on the German concert scene for several years now - despite the fact that, or perhaps because, both groups put the spotlight on an instrument that is not initially associated with the big stages of the world: the recorder!
Wildes Holz has been countering the cliché of the chocolate-smeared children's instrument with the mischievous motto "Freedom for the recorder!" for 25 years now. The supposedly tortured recorder nonchalantly joins forces with guitar and double bass and rocks the boards that mean the world with a lot of virtuosity, plenty of wit and a cheeky mix from Maya the Bee and Vivaldi to AC/DC. The trio is a welcome guest on cabaret stages as well as at renowned festivals and in prestigious venues such as the Elbphilharmonie.
Spark combines recorders with the classical piano trio - consisting of violin, cello and piano - and places them in a surprisingly new tonal context. The group pitches its tent of ideas in an open field between classical, minimal music and avant-garde. In 2011, they received the ECHO Klassik award for this. Since then, Spark has not only delighted a steadily growing audience in German-speaking countries, but has also performed as a soloist group in front of the London Symphony Orchestra at the sold-out Barbican Centre, the National Concert Hall Taipei and the Oriental Arts Center Shanghai.
Now the two bands are bringing together their sound apparatuses to create a super group in a class of its own. And when Wildes Holz meets the sparks of Spark, the result is "Mächtig Zunder". The fiery exchange of blows between the two groups takes them through all eras and genres: from Bach to the Backstreet Boys and back again! Sometimes the three recorders take off in close harmony style to "Mr. Sandman", then there are jazz tirades à la Charlie Parker. Spark sweeps a baroque concerto off the stage and Wildes Holz embarks on the highway to hell.
The sound spectrum that the two groups conjure out of a hat seems to know no bounds: Minimal music by Michael Nyman, laid-back Italo swing, well-known titles from the classical repertoire, a Chinese 80s pop song, a grooving 90s medley, hits by the Beatles or the Doors and, of course, plenty of their own pieces - including the Spark evergreen "The Eternal Second" penned by cellist Victor Plumettaz or the songs "One Last Goodbye" and "In der Holzklasse" by Wildes Holz double bass player Markus Conrads.
Wildes Holz and Spark, the classical band - a get-together that guarantees plenty of surprises, fast-paced sounds, passionate playing, ultimate dedication and the best entertainment!
