Singer-songwriter Martin Betz - Rare Earth Singer-songwriter art - profundity & humor meets linguistic acrobatics & piano

Space tourists won't find any poplars, beeches or birches. Which is why Martin Betz prefers to stay on our unique, rare earth. He sees the poet's main task in paying friendly attention to the unspectacular, everyday phenomena. Betz studied music, but the focus of his song writing is clearly on the text. Completely topical observations are captured in exact images and precise rhyming verses. Martin Betz also represents this somewhat "old-fashioned" style as a lecturer at the renowned songwriting school "Sago", which Betz's teacher and friend Christof Stählin founded in 1989. And one or two children's pianos, of which the Swabian, who lived in Berlin for thirty years, owns a whole collection, are indispensable at a Betz performance. The Berliner-by-choice with Swabian roots is a master of instruments - whether harpsichord, Bakelite harmonium or the beloved children's piano. Whether solo or with the legendary "Toyboys", he elicits surprising sounds from his instruments and skillfully interweaves them with his humorous and profound lyrics. His power of language and his fine sense of rhyme have drawn comparisons with the "Neue Frankfurter Schule". The "Berlin Swabian" takes a unique, often satirical look at his adopted home and the absurdities of everyday life.

Martin Betz is not only a musician, but also an author. He has already published several books and CDs and, following in the footsteps of his friend Christof Stählin, is involved in the songwriting school Sago. His credo: "We provide the best conditions for never reaching a mass audience." It is precisely this independence and autonomy that makes his art so special and worth listening to.

The garden concert promises a relaxed summer evening with inspiring texts, unusual sounds and a very special atmosphere. Cool drinks and tasty snacks will be provided, and a campfire invites you to linger. In case of bad weather, the concert will take place in the cozy ambience of Villa Jo.

The concert is kindly supported by Villa Jo Obertürkheim.
