Combining artistic ideas with the individuality of materials - this is what Stuttgart artist Matthias Lutzeyer achieves. Deep black wall and floor objects are created in an elaborate, experimental work process. He has been writing his own history with this type of color painting for around 20 years.
Lutzeyer is constantly exploring the intrinsic nature of color and the physics of the material - in contradiction to the design process - as well as the transitions between the material's own formal tendencies and artistically intentional intervention.
In his works, he develops multi-part objects, arrangements and new "clusters" from basic elements that have formed over time in the witch's kitchen of the studio. The latest and most unconventional work is a massive cube made of pure oil paint. It is the main work in our current exhibition.
With this way of painting, the artist, who was born in Stuttgart in 1959, has been writing his own history for around 20 years and is constantly adding new chapters. And for just as long, each new step has been presented at the Klaus Braun Gallery and summarized in a catalog.
