In BWV 564, influences of the imaginative North German organ tradition can be heard, but also Bach's experience with courtly orchestral music - and on top of that, the Adagio contains a wonderfully floating solo melody that can be interpreted with feeling. It is not so far from this work to Mozart's world of sound. We know that Bach and Mozart are in the best hands with the Freiburg cathedral organist and university professor! Maierhofer, who has the fascinating sounds of his quadraphonic organ system in the cathedral in his ear, also knows how to present symphonic repertoire to great effect, for example in Orb and Sceptre. William Walton (1902-83) once wrote it for the coronation of Elizabeth II.
