Four Hands, One Instrument
In this concert from the Early Music series, Katja Polyakova and Marieke Spaans present selected Mozart sonatas for piano four-hands. Performed on a period fortepiano, these compositions reveal their original sonic character. It becomes clear just how much pleasure Mozart intended his four-hand works to bring—and how charmingly he challenged the social conventions of his time in the process. For on the comparatively small 18th-century instrument, the performers inevitably find themselves playing in close proximity.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Mozart’s beloved sonatas for piano four hands
- Authentic sound on a historic fortepiano from 1784
- Chamber music full of elegance, wit, and virtuosic joy of playing
- Insight into the musical culture and social life of Mozart’s era
