Counterpoint & Transformation - Bach & Handel in dialog
Both composers received their initial training at the organ bench and in counterpoint:
Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel grew up in central Germany, but their paths diverged early on. Handel conquered Italy and London with operatic splendor, his trio sonatas reflecting the stage world of his works. Bach remained connected to the Protestant church context of Thuringia and Saxony - his Musical Offering, on the other hand, was composed in a courtly encounter with Frederick II of Prussia.
Their worlds meet in this chamber music program: Trio sonatas, fugues, canons and thematic transformations combine representation and reflection - two manuscripts of Baroque mastery in dialog.
