Book launch with Joachim A. Lang (Stuttgart), Thomas Weber (Aberdeen) and Eva Szepesi (Frankfurt am Main) Moderator: Jan Sellner (Stuttgarter Zeitung)
The deadly combination of hatred and lies paved the way to Auschwitz and plunged the world into darkness. From this experience, many survivors of the Shoah developed a vision of what a better tomorrow could look like. 80 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, their message is more urgent than ever: they warn against disinformation and extremism and encourage us to reflect on our virtues beyond empty Sunday speeches and derive concrete instructions for peaceful coexistence from them.
In their book, historian Thomas Weber and director Joachim A. Lang use interviews with seven Holocaust survivors to create a vision that creates meaning, provides orientation and inspires us to make a lasting commitment to our community and to the future. The two authors present the book together with Eva Szepesi, who survived the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Joachim A. Lang is a journalist, director and author and has won numerous film and television awards, including the Franco-German Journalism Prize, the Golden Lion, the Bavarian Television Prize and the German Television Prize. His most recent films are "Führer und Verführer" and "Cranko".
Thomas Weber is Professor of History and International Politics at the University of Aberdeen and Visiting Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
Eva Szepesi is a Holocaust survivor who reports on her fate as a contemporary witness in lectures and books.
