Reading and discussion with Ece Temelkuran, moderated by Ilija Trojanow

"Ece Temelkuran's letters to us all have a tremendous impact; I know of no one who fuses politics and poetry, human love and reason so convincingly," writes Eva Menasse about the Turkish author. Temelkuran's new book "Nation of Strangers", "Unsere Heimat sind wir", translated by Michaela Grabinger, sets an unsparing yet hopeful tone: Here she writes in personal terms about exile and the need to find a new home. "I'm not coming home again." This sentence, spoken in a short phone call to her mother, marks the beginning of Temelkuran's involuntary existence as a citizen of the world. After the coup in 2016, the Turkish journalist and writer left the country to escape arrest. She becomes part of the "nation of strangers"; people who have had to leave their homeland or no longer feel at home in their country due to political developments. Author and translator Ilija Trojanow, regular presenter of the "Literature Expeditions" series, talks to her. Ece Temelkuran was born in Izmir in 1973 and has received many awards for her work. She lives in Berlin.
