The exhibition in the vhs-photogalerie shows the vibrant world of street photography that captures the daily life of New York.

Nina Welch-Kling's exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of street photography, which captures the daily life of New York. With her compact camera at chest height, Nina Welch-Kling roams the streets and discovers her motifs as if casually in the stream of passers-by. In her photographs, she transforms spontaneous encounters and fleeting moments into artistic compositions characterized by the interplay of light and shadow. Her preference for strong contrasts and precise compositions lends the images a special, mysterious depth.
As a German-American who has lived in this dynamic metropolis for over 30 years, the photographer has developed an independent artistic perspective. In post-production, she carefully selects the best shots to present the optimal motifs in impressive diptychs. New, enigmatic spaces open up in the dialog between these pairs of images. The photographic conversations arouse curiosity, interest and the viewer's imagination. At second glance, they also point to their narrative quality, their social aspect and their aesthetic nature.
The current series "Duologues" is the result of a long-term project that has been developed in a continuous creative process since 2017. Nina Welch-Kling's passion for art and architecture, which she developed during her studies in Chicago and Los Angeles, also characterizes her photographic work. Her ability to capture the essence of urban life while adding new facets makes her a significant voice in street photography.

The photo book "Duologues" has been published to accompany the exhibition.
