Noise Is a Queer Space

Luxa M. Schüttler, Håkon Stene, Queers and Allies: Noise Is a Queer Space
Installative Performance

with Luxa M. Schüttler / Håkon Stene / Queers and Allies
Daniel Steinberg, sound direction

Percussionist Håkon Stene uses numerous snare drums in the room to create changing sound states under live electronic control: rhythmic fields and noise surfaces that overlap, synchronize or separate. Donated by queers and allies such as Jennifer Walshe, Stellan Veloce, Chaya Czernowin, Timothy McCormack, Neo Hülcker, Wojtek Blecharz, Kari Watson, Sara Glojnarić and many more, each snare sound originates from a different pop-cultural context and stands for sonic diversity and the plurality of identities. In the fluidity of this variable playing environment, the boundaries between composition, installation and free play are deliberately undermined. The result is a kind of acoustic group selfie: queer, solidary, personal, hedonistic.
