Musical fairy tale from the age of 8. A reading with piano music

On a dreamlike Christmas night, the Nutcracker and the Mouse King come to life. A storyteller and the fascinating music of Carl Reinecke and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, played four-handed on the piano, transport visitors young and old into a world full of fantasy and adventure.

250 years ago, on January 24, 1776, the writer, draughtsman and composer E. T. A. Hoffmann (1776-1822) was born in Königsberg. In addition to his unloved profession as a Prussian civil servant, the multiple artist was also a master of fairytale writing. His texts show the abyss between reality, madness and fiction. A subtle humor characterizes many of his works.

The fairy tale "Nutcracker and Mouse King" is set at Christmas in the fantasy and dream world of the girl Marie Stahlbaum. Carl Reinecke (1824-1910), pianist, music teacher and composer, composed the music to "Nutcracker and Mouse King" for piano four hands. For Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the story forms the basis for his world-famous ballet "The Nutcracker" in an adapted version by Alexandre Dumas.
