Onegin first breaks young Tatyana's heart and then ultimately his own. He strolls through life as an arrogant snob and does not realize what a desirable woman is behind the supposedly boring girl. Years later, he tries to conquer her and bitterly learns that he has missed his chance. Based on the verse novel Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, John Cranko tells the story through movement alone. The plot unfolds before the audience's eyes like an open book. The drama builds inexorably in sounds and steps, so that by the end there is not a dry eye in the house - neither on stage nor in the audience.
