Pamir - Kirgistan I Tadschikistan I Pakistan I Afghanistan

Location:
Theaterhaus, Siemensstr. 11, 70469 Stuttgart

The landscapes in the Pamir, the high mountains in Central Asia, are desolate. Austrian Priska Seisenbacher travels alone in the border regions of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, China and Afghanistan, gaining special insights into the realities of life for local women.

The award-winning author and photographer tells of arranged marriages, opium consumption, suspicion of espionage and hard physical labor, but also of the dreams of these people, of unparalleled hospitality, pristine nature and a week-long ride on horseback. She learns about Ismailism, a Shiite denomination in Islam that has a great influence on the opportunities available to women and men. So it is no coincidence that she meets women who study, play public soccer and have paid jobs in the barren high mountains of all places.

A reportage about intense encounters in the remote yurt settlements of the Pamir, with stories of life in the largely unknown high mountain world of high Asia.

Priska Seisenbacher

Priska Seisenbacher, born in 1990, lives in Vienna. The award-winning author and photographer has been traveling to Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan for over ten years. She wants to get to know regions with their contradictions and conflicts, but also to experience their beauty. The local women in particular help her to do this, and Seisenbacher focuses on them.
