An evening for Roda Roda - a musical reading with music.
Barbara Stoll, Frank Ackermann and Frank Eisele (accordion) bring the sparkling stories of the "Mark Twain of the Balkans" to the stage. Humorous, timeless, musical.
Roda Roda, born Alexander Rosenfeld in 1872, grew up in what is now Croatia among Slavonian farmers, Jewish merchants, Hungarian counts and Swabian craftsmen. He later lived in Vienna, Munich and Berlin and was close friends with a number of writers: Kurt Tucholsky, Joachim Ringelnatz, Frank Wedekind, Joseph Roth, Heinrich Mann, Gustav Meyrink, Erich Mühsam...
In 1933, immediately after the Reichstag fire, the Jew Roda Roda emigrated from Germany and died in New York in 1945.
Roda Roda is one of the great humorists of German literature and has rightly been apostrophized as the "Mark Twain of the Balkans". We present a selection of his stories - artfully polished jewels in which the world of old Balkania and Kakania sparkles and is preserved timelessly.
