The Stuttgart Lapidarium, with its Apollo of Belvedere and the Orpheus mosaic, is the ideal place to bring Goethe's rebirth to life, as the Lapidarium was originally laid out as a "Roman garden".
Goethe sneaked away from Karlsbad in September 1786. It was an escape, and it was not until two months later that the poet contacted his friends and announced his whereabouts: Rome.
Goethe stayed away for almost two years and experienced a rebirth as a person and artist in Rome, as his "Iphigenia", his "Tasso" and his "Roman Elegies" impressively attest.
With Dorothea Baltzer, Frank Ackermann & Frank Eisele (accordion)
