Vernissage and lecture with Thomas Klingenmaier
For the opening of the video exhibition Schaurig - gelesen - gezeichnet, literature expert Thomas Klingenmaier focuses on the Austrian Karl Hans Strobl (1877- 1946). Throughout his life, he was an extreme conservative. He ended up as a cheerleader and cultural apparatchik for the National Socialists. But he was also one of the most widely read fantasy authors of his time, and for good reason: Strobl's morbid imagination rivaled that of Edgar Allan Poe, and his best stories offer unforgettable ghost train rides. However, it is not a question of enduring the tension between the political scoundrel and the great storyteller. The Strobl case is particularly interesting from the following point of view: it clearly shows the connecting threads between wonderful fantasy and terrible ideology.
