Musical Humor on the Grand Piano
Johann Sebastian Bach shaped music history like almost no other composer. But his sons, too, forged their own creative paths and delighted their audiences with works full of wit, imagination, and humor. This concert in the Early Music series is dedicated to the three best-known Bach sons: Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, and Johann Christian Bach.
Marieke Spaans will perform on a historic tangent grand piano a selection of works originally composed for convivial evenings in the family salon. Musical surprises, humorous ideas, and virtuosic fantasies—charming and entertaining. Among the highlights of the program are the famous Folia Variations by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
