Reading and discussion with Sharon Dodua Otoo , moderated by Katharina Borchardt
The new novel by Bachmann Prize winner Sharon Dodua Otoo takes us on a journey to Timmendorfer Strand. Amata Haller and her boss Heinz Brockhaus, who has offered to drive her there, are on their way. Amata is in a hurry, her mother is waiting, as she does every year on May 3rd. This day marks the anniversary of the sinking of the Cap Arcona, the catastrophe towards the end of the Second World War that her grandfather only just survived. The heat presses down on the crowded streets, the journey gets longer and longer, Brockhaus talks incessantly and Amata loses her temper. Sharon Dodua Otoo is a writer, editor of the English-language book series "Witnessed" and curator of the black literature festival "Resonanzen". Her first novel "Ada's Room" was translated into several languages in 2023. This was followed by awards and scholarships; she gave the Zurich Poetry Lecture in 2025. She lives with her family in Berlin.

In collaboration with SWR Kultur, broadcast date: July 3, 10.05 pm
