A team from the Laupheim Observatory visited the Armstrong Flight Research Center in Palmdale, California, and experienced the preparation and execution of a research flight.

The film takes us on a research flight on board SOFIA and skillfully combines original footage from the
aircraft with computer-generated images about the technology of aircraft astronomy and the exploration of the dwarf planet Pluto and the formation of stars in interstellar dust clouds.
The flying observatory SOFIA opens a gateway into cosmic nebulae that are opaque in visible light. In a dynamic flight, we dive into the dust columns of the Eagle Nebula, 7000 light years away, and reach the formation sites of young stars.
