Son of the Velvet Rat - a name straight out of a noir novel, music like the soundtrack to one. Just the right thing for the intimate setting of the Laboratorium.

Georg Altziebler sings as if Leonard Cohen had forgotten his voice in the desert sands of California. It's all about atmosphere, about stories, about loneliness that doesn't make you sad, but has a strangely comforting effect, located somewhere between Americana, noise and dark folk.
Lucinda Williams, fan and cooperation partner on the album "Red Chamber Music", once called Georg's voice "great and sexy-gravelly", interwoven with Heike's "translucent harmonies, like desert roses circling a tattooed heart".
Live, the duo is characterized by special variety and dynamics. In addition to various keyboard instruments, Heike also plays the percussion. The spectrum ranges from fragile neo-folk chanson to rough garage rock.
Son of the Velvet Rat are currently on tour with songs from the "Red Barn Sessions" and their latest album "Ghost Ranch" (Fluff & Gravy Records/ 2024). Both releases were recorded at the Red Barn Recorders studio in the Californian desert. Illustrious guests such as Marc Ribot on guitar, Jolie Holland as back-up vocalist and violinist and Jay Bellerose and Danny Frankel on drums were among those involved. Nevertheless, the instrumentation is more sparse and transparent than ever before on SotVR.
