Insights into the history, culture and archaeology of the Bororo Lecture by Dr. Fabricio Ferraz Gerardi, University of Tübingen
This lecture introduces the history, culture and archaeology of the Bororo - an indigenous people of Central Brazil with a rich cultural and linguistic tradition. Starting from the first contacts with the colonial world in the 18th century, the lecture traces the changes and challenges that the Bororo have faced over time, up to the current situation. Particular attention is paid to the Bororo language, a unique and now endangered language that is a central element of their cultural identity. A current language revitalization project will be presented, which is being carried out in close cooperation with the community. The aim is to strengthen the language through digital tools, school materials and participatory approaches and to pass it on to future generations. The lecture combines ethnographic, linguistic and historical perspectives and offers a comprehensive insight into the cultural resilience and linguistic diversity of South America.
In cooperation with: Gesellschaft für Erd- und Völkerkunde zu Stuttgart e.V.
